Willie Gault

On today's episode, we chat with one of the most speedy athletes in the world. Willie Gault is a World Champion Gold Medalist, Superbowl Champion, Olympic track and field star, and former NFL wide receiver. He currently holds world records in the 100 meters in three age groups. In 45-and older, he ran 10.72 seconds, in 50-and older 10.88 seconds, and finally, in 55-and older he set the world record for the 100 meters at 11.30 seconds. Not only is he a notable track athlete, but he also made his mark on the NFL as well. As a part of the '85 Chicago Bears under Coach Mike Ditka, he helped lead the Bears to win Super Bowl XX in January of 1986. Willie Gault is a champion of all sorts. He along with Walter Payton, and other members of the '85 Bears performed "The Superbowl Shuffle" following their Monday Night loss to the Miami Dolphins, their only loss that season. Their rap song was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1985 for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group losing to "Kiss" by Prince. Growing up in Griffin, Georgia, Gault made his mark by his football and track career at the University of Tennessee. He never separated the two sports from each other because he believed they went hand in hand.

Willie Gault is humble by nature, and he does not credit any of his success to himself alone. He reminds us that we are not in control of our life or our course. Gault stresses the importance of respecting each person equally. In light of all of his success, he does regard himself higher than anyone else. He reminds us how we should like who we see in the mirror; and if we don’t, we should evaluate our lives introspectively. Sit back, relax and get your pens ready… because this is Write It Down.
