My Review of Dr. Jordan Peterson's Lecture

This last week I had the pleasure of attending one of Dr. Jordan Peterson's Lectures he was giving on his book tour through America. He was speaking primarily on Rule #4 from his newest book "Beyond Order 12 More Rules for Life".

Rule #4 is: Notice That Opportunity Lurks Where Responsibility Has Been Abdicated.

The overarching theme in my opinion was to encourage all of us to bear as much responsibility as possible, why?

Well for a couple reasons:

-The Majority of people these days are avoiding responsibilities and feel like they don't deserve to have success because of their existential guilt for having privilege in the first place and society is trying to cancel anyone who tries to succeed or go against the grain rich now.

-Because there is value in difficulty. Dr. Peterson talks about the importance of making yourself invaluable through doing difficult things and bearing responsibilities because without this your life ultimately has no purpose.

-He then explained further the point of Responsibility and Meaning in one's life, using the story of Peter Pan to illustrate what happens when you avoid responsibility and meaning.

-And finally he talked about the importance of rescuing your father from the belly of the beast with an Egyptian story about The God of Order Osirius and his son, The God of Attention Horus.

All and all I thought this was an amazing lecture and I hope I do his explanation justice in this podcast episode.

If you want to read more of Dr. Jordan Peterson's work you can find all his books on Amazon or any other major book retailer, as well as watch his own Podcast on Youtube!
