Goal Setting: The Clouds & The Dirt

Today I wanted to give you two frameworks to work with when it comes to setting BIG goals and actually achieving them! This concept is called The Clouds and The Dirt.

The Clouds=Your BIG dreams that pull you out of bed every morning and make each day matter! This is the peak at the end of your hero's journey.

The Dirt = The actual day to day tasks required to achieve such a big and audacious goal.

This concept was first shared with me by a guy named Gary Vaynerchuk 5 years ago and its stuck with me since.

The Clouds = Your goals have to be so big that on the days you're sick of The Dirt you can look up and remember WHY you're doing this work. It's for something bigger and better. Something bigger than just you, its about leaving an impact on the world, your community, your clients, your family, exc.
Because without a goal this big, on the days when The Dirt feels like shit, you'll quit because "what's the point?"

The Dirt: This is what I believe separates the average from the Truly Great Achievers in the world. The Dirt are your daily habits, your daily checklists, that move you 1 step closer to your goals. And based on how big your goals are will determine how many days you have to live in the dirt before you ascent to the clouds.
You must love The Dirt! The Dirt is where character, grit and your identity are developed. It's the Hero's Journey. The best of the best, love rolling their sleeves up and getting to work because IT'S WHO THEY ARE!

As you listen to this podcast you will hear me talk about how you must CHANGE:

  • What you do

  • What you value

  • What you believe

In order to become the person you've always wanted to be. And the process of becoming that person is hard work, its messy, it isn't fair, and you live in The Dirt for awhile...but its the only way you reach your goals and actually make it to The Clouds.

Hope you enjoy!
